Trading Card

Daisydog's tribute to TLC2.0

Oh, the Places You’ll Go!
on TLC Web 2.0
with apologies to Dr. Seuss

Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You’re off to Great Places!
You’re off and away!

You have brains in your head.
You have fingers on keys.
You can steer yourself
Any direction you please.
You are on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy who’ll decide where to go.

You’ll look up and down the variety of links.
Look them over with care.
About some you’ll say, “I don’t choose to go there.”
With you head full of brains and your fingers on keys
you’re too smart to go down some web avenue streets.

And you may not find any
you’ll want to go down.
In that case, of course,
you’ll head straight out of town.

Some things can happen
and frequently do
to people as brainy
and key boarding as you.

And when things start to happen,
don’t worry. Don’t stew.
Just go right along.
You’ll start happening too.

OH! THE PLACES YOU’LL GO!

RSS and Flicker are yours to explore.
Lookout Facebook, there is so much more!
Blogging away with tagging and posts
Wikis and YouTube just make you boast!

Hundreds of online apps and tools,
Rollyo and bloglines naming a few.

You won’t lag behind, because you’ll have the speed.
You’ll pass the whole gang and you’ll soon take the lead.
Wherever you fly, you’ll be best of the best.
Wherever you go, you’ll be top of the rest.

I’m sorry to say, sadly but true,
that some of the hang-ups can happen to you.

You can get all hung up
in a prickle-ly perch.
But you won’t be left behind in the lurch.

Your TLC buddies, while keying away,
will come to your rescue will come to your aid.

So don’t get confused
when you start in the race
down the long wiggled web roads at a break-necking pace
and grind on for weeks across all the web spaces
headed, I hope, towards most useful places.

Oh, the places you’ll go! There is fun to be done!
There are points to be scored. There are games to be won.
And the magical things you can do with that mouse
will make you the winning-est winner in the house.
Fame! You’ll be famous as famous can be,
with the whole wide web watching on YouTube TV.

So.. Carribean Connector, Climbing Mt. Everest or Library Life,
you’re off to Great places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting. So….get on your way!

Facebooook

I registered with Facebook as a NSU employee. There are 262 NSU employees registered with Facebook. I am not a Facebook woman. For those of you who enjoy it, including my daughter, more power to you.

Facebook is a privately owned social-networking site that hopes to cash out for as much as $2 billion. It was started 2 years ago by a group of sophomores from Harvard University, soon to become multi-millionaires.

If I had thought of a social networking site that everyone wanted to join, I could give up my day job!

My Facebook days are numbered. Goodbye Facebook!

Podcasts

For this exercise I am submitting the HPD library Audio Digest podcasts. If you are part of the NSU community check out our medical podcasts. Click Here

YouTube

I searched YouTube for a library related site. I found a Packard Bell Commercial with a library theme. . I think YouTube is a good avenue for free advertising or to share one's opinion.

I look forward to seeing the NSU TLC 2.0 wrap up party on YouTube!

Web 2.0 Awards

For Exercise 19 I chose Classified and Directories. Craig's list was the winner in this category. I have used Craigs's list (Gainsville)to furnish our daughter's apartment. We listed a used car (FT Lauderdale list) and received 5 inquires within an hour. I would recommend this site. I do not think Craig's list is applicable for libraries.

Zoho writer

I created a certificate (see below) on Zoho writer. I did not like the choices of fonts and the graphics were limited. For my library needs I will stick with word or photoshop. I suppose for some this web based word processing site would be useful.

TLC sandbox

I inserted by blog in the sandbox, but the sandbox wouldn't accept my blog because of a dash in my blog name. I did not realize the sensitivity with my url address. Live and learn

What is a wiki?

Enjoyed the tlc links to wiki's. Do most wiki's require users to register before the users can edit information? HPD library's pathfinders are in the process of being converted into wiki format. The library requires a login to edit any information. The HPD librarians are the only people who can edit information on our HPD wiki's.

So I am back to what is a wiki and why do we need it?

Library 2.0

Library 2.0 is alive and growing at HPD Library. We have a biomedical information blog, medical audio digest podcasts (anesthesiology to urology), and working on our wiki's.

I am glad to be a part of the TLC 2.0 challenge. There is so much I don't know and need to learn.

Del.icio.us

Delicious is a cool feature for bookmarks. I would not use it in my job but would work really well at home. My other half has more than 50 bookmarks on our pc. We could use some organization plus find similar links to his favorite sites. Delicious sounds like a plan at home!

Technorati

Went exploring in the Technorati tool. I like the gizmodo site. It features new techno gagets. I would not use technorati because I know blogging is not my style. For all the bloggers out there who want to be heard, 71 million of you, technorati is for you!

Rollyo

I not quite sure I like rollyo. I can see the advantages. Guess I am stuck in the ancient ways of looking at web sites not in the same place. Anywho, I created a news search roll and give it a try for my news fix with my cup of joe.

library thing

Here are some of the books I have read and enjoyed. No more time to add all the books I have read.

Image generators

I had fun playing with exercise 10 , image generators. My cup of joe came from cappuccino generator. I also enjoyed playing with the M & M generator and the tooth fairy generator.
